Chicago Bears coachMike Tice has been fired, effective immediately, following a season that ended with the team’s first loss in six games and a 7-9 record.
Tice was fired after the Bears were 3-9 and finished with the second-worst record in the NFL, a season in which they were outscored 23-0 by opposing teams.
The Bears lost the following week at Detroit and finished 5-11, one of the worst records in franchise history.
The team is 8-12 this season.
Tiffany Hightower, the team�s leading rusher, was suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the league�s substance abuse policy.
The suspension was overturned on appeal by the NFLPA.
A day before the season ended, Tice said he was considering resigning.
The Bears released a statement late Tuesday afternoon saying Tice was informed by the league office that he would not be allowed to coach the team in 2017.TICE, 59, had been a coach for three seasons.
His last stint with the Bears was in 2014.
Tice played in the Hall of Fame with the Detroit Lions, the Chicago Bears and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
