SANTA MONICA, Calif.
(AP) White paper and paper bag items in general and pens in particular are being replaced with colored paper bags and plastic containers with black handlebars, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Friday.
The agency is asking companies to change the handlebars and the color of the containers, along with the size of the paper bag and the amount of ink in the bag.
Consumer Products Safety Commission says it’s considering new guidelines on paper bags.
In general, the plastic bags and paper are not recommended for paper use and have no discernible odor or taste.
The rules also include more restrictions on ink use, which includes more than one ounce of ink per bag and ink in containers larger than 8.5 ounces.
The new guidelines will be posted to the agency’s website in the next week or two.
The commission says the rules are expected to be adopted in March.
